2013 - the Second-half News

Joe Skotarzak  | Published on Saturday, March 15, 2014

It's been 50 years of B16 gracing our waters in the X fleet. The boat sailed its last race and is not expected to return for many years. It was with tears in her eyes, Nan Norris watched the race's completion with its last victory until great grandchildren return the boat to its rightful place. Will, Neal, Beth sailed in the '60s with Will winning an X Inland. Beth's sons, Joe, George and Charlie carried the tradition of winning X regattas in grand fashion. Adieu, B16!

LBSS Wraps Up Season

The LBSS has closed up shop and sent the sailors back to the schools sporting their new team shirts, and the Commodore's Ball is in the memory banks.  Happy summer.

Celebrating the big wins - first opti bullets and another ILYA A Scow

The Will-Mikacich family had much to celebrate this week, as both Hallie and Liza got their first opti wins, and the twins celebrated their birthday with Grandpa at the Wednesday night cookout!  In other news, Joe Kutsch and Ben Porter and Kate Klement (with help from some kids from Geneva and other lakes) have won again and brought the ILYA A Scow title back to Beulah where it of course rightly belongs!

It's the Inlands!

FINAL UPDATE - no breeze and no racing Saturday so that's where it ended - B1 was 2nd, B12 was 5th, B7 was 6th and B16 8th. Steve Schmidt from Okauchee took home the ILYA title this year.  Beulah was the largest fleet in attendance, and it was most definitely a family affair - a gaggle of Porters, and two each from the Haeger, Kutsch, Barr, Sullivan and Davenport families plus one each Brickler and Bohl and Glenn/Andrea.  Bringin' it strong, Beulah-style!  We also sent off a couple prospects to the Bilge Pullers, no word as of press time whether either of them survived.

UPDATE - We've had two great days of racing in Iowa, six races in and one to go if mother nature cooperates.  The Haeger men have led the charge - Kent and Mike have sailed great and led the pack for a long time and are currently 4th, Will and Brad are currently sitting second, both of them have a bullet. It's a family affair as the Kutsch fellows are also all in the top 10.  Click here for results RESULTS and for Facebook updates:  ILYA on FB

The Beulah C fleet is off to the Inlands! Today our heroes are pulling out and heading west across Wisconsin and most of Minnesota before dropping south into Iowa on the way to beautiful Okoboji Lake!  Racing takes place Thursday through Saturday and the B-boats are traveling in force as usual.  Clan Porter led the way, first out of the gate - as of this writing they have cleared LaCrosse and Shawn was good enough to send us a selfie!  Fair winds and following seas, C fleet!

WYA Celebrates 75th Anniversary with C Fleet on LaBelle

The Wisconsin Yachting Association has been bringin' it strong for 75 years, and the Beulah C fleet came out in force this year to support the effort!  A huge gaggle of B-boats headed up to LaBelle and had four races spread over three days, with a washout on Sunday.  In a seriously deep 57 boat fleet JoeK and Kent brought the 7 and 12 YOT's home in the top 10 - full results can be seen here: RESULTS  MollyG was up there and took a whole slew of photos, which you can check out here:  Pix

ILYA Opti Championship is in the books!

7/30 @ 4 pm:  It's all over!  Thank you so much for coming and, please, drive home safely!

7/30 @ 1:30pm:  Green fleet is done, four races completed and it's a wrap.  RWB fleet is finishing Race 4.
7/30 @ 11:50am:  Races in the books!  Both results buttons are live and being updated as race results come in from the RC on the water to command central!
7/30 @ 9:45am:  Both fleets have courses set, marks in the water, getting things going, finally some racing!
7/30 @ 9am:  Both fleets have left the dock, scheduled 9am start on the RWB course and 9:15 for Green - thus far it's a beautiful morning, breezes are light but hopes and spirits are high!
7/29 @ 4pm:  Done for the day, racing starts at 9am Tuesday
7/29 @ 11:45:  No wind, no racing this morning, both fleets in for lunch
7/29 @ 10a --  It's on!  We have 89 RWB and 45 Green and they're all out on the water!  It always blows on Beulah, so they say, so we're hoping that comes true today, so far no evidence to support that theory.

ILYA X Championship in the books

The Beulah X fleet went to Oshkosh and Lake Winnebago to partake of the 2013 Championship.  Beulah was very well represented in both the Senior and Junior fleets, as well as on the RC where Candace and Nancy Roble and Julie Haeger all helped out.  On the senior course, Charlie and AC led the way with a bullet in the last race and an overall third.  They were joined in the top 10 by Brooke and Ryan in 8th, and in the money by ScottS and EmmaB in 13th and EZ/AlexR in 15th.  On the Junior side there were two Beulah money-winners as PatrickB and JonahB were 8th and CarolineS and KendallB finished 10th.  In addition to the excitement on the water, team Beulah also brought home the volleyball championship!  Watch your Mainsheet for stories from the kid-reporters, and in the meantime you can find results here:  JR   SR

Happy Birthday, America
